CLAMPLING SYSTEMS

This bulletin contains the compendium of all the connectors and the accessories that we have developed over the course of five years in the field of grounding systems. We have provided an economical alternative to the clamping needs required in the electrical industry to derive or connect different types of conductors.

The considerations in the desing for our GKS (Grounding Kit Systems) have been the following:

  • Material choice
    Selection of the austenitic stainless steel 304 as material with a useful life greater than 15 years.
  • Mechanical Properties
    Does not require exothermic welding.
  • Chemical Properties
    - Resistant to atmospheric corrosion.
    - Presents no galvanic corrosion.
  • Electrical Properties
    - Effective handling of the touch and step potential.

Eletricos Internacional Ltda will keep developing new general and customized solutions for different grounding applications that deeply reflects the degree of development of a our dynamic industry.

SKIN EFFECT AND AREA OF A SOLID STAINLESS STEEL CONDUCTORS IN AUSTENITIC TYPE 304

The geometric space and tri-dimensional figures

The geometric space can be regarded as the set of all points of the physical universe. Thus, every point, straight and flat is in the space.The definition of solid geometric is a complicated one. A possible definition is as follows: a geometric solid is a region of closed space limited by certain surfaces that can be flat or curved.

we will resort to some well-known cases to introduce the concept as well as studying the concepts of surface area and volume of a soild.

 Rectangular parallelepiped or rectangular box

Is the one that has solid rectangular base and its side edges are perpendicular to the base. If you have all the edges equal is called cube. Its surface area and volume are given by the following:

For our GSK conductor downspout for transformer and surge arrester using
austenitic stainless steel 304 we have the following dimensions:

a=22 mm (wide)
b=1,2 mm (thick)
Flat Conductors surface Area c=10,000 mm (lenght)

Therefore replacing those values on the formula before we obtain
464,053 mm2

Cylinder

The solid cylinder is formed by circular parallel faces and the set of all segments of straight lines perpendicular to their faces and in between them. Their surface area and volume, are given by the following formula:

Whereas: r=2.91 mm (dia) h=10,000 mm (length)

If we do the same exercise with the dimensions used for our GKS in stainless steel
BUT WITH A CIRCUALR CONDUCTOR we obtain the following:
Cylinder Conductors Surface Area
188,552 mm2

In other words we can conclude that the rectangular parallelepiped has 2.46 times more surface than the circular geometry.
Therefore to obtain the same equivalent of our flat GKS downspout in stainless steel with a circular conductor this one would have to be 14 mm in diameter or AWG 4/0.
